Hung Sing Gwoon is the denomination of the Choy Lee Fut’s School, which was established by Chan Heung and has perpetuated till our days, hence, the ancestral knowledge has been transmitted through a straight line of his posterior descendants’ generations. Nowadays, Master Chen Yong Fa as Chan Heung’s great-great-grandson represents the 5th generation and is Choy Lee Fut’s System Guardian.
Master Chen Yong Fa was born in China in 1951. He began the study of Choy Lee Fut when he was four years old, under the supervision of his grandfather, Chan Yiu Chi. After his grandfather death Chen Yong Fa continued the martial trainings having as master his father, Chan Wan Hon, till the date of his death in 1979. At the present, Master Chen Yong Fan is responsible for spreading out Choy Lee Fut’s teachings, as it has been done in the past by familiar tradition. Besides, to be an expert in all Choy Lee Fut’s arts, Chen Yong Fa has, also, inherited the historical registers of his ancestors, that document the history and the evolution of Choy Lee Fut and contain a detailed description of all the forms and techniques of Choy Lee Fut.
Master Chen Yon Fa is a complete martial artist and has a high technical skill, being, as well a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, who was graduated by the Kwangtung College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The founder of Choy Lee Fut’ system, Chan Heung, had a clinic of Traditional Chinese Medicine in his hometown, King Mui, where he, besides the practice of medicine, also, taught Choy Lee Fut’s techniques to his familiar members, as well as to a limited number of pupils, which were rarely elected out of the familiar extent. This privileged group of pupils was called Wing Sing Tong. The Wing Sing Tong students had to demonstrate dedication, loyalty, discipline and show a true commitment to Chan Family and his Jeung Mun Yan (Guardian).
Consequently, the Wing Sing Tong students have several obligations, such as: to make an effort to reach higher levels of Choy Lee Fut performance; to follow the ethical and moral code of Chan Family; to train in a strenuously way; to support without conditions the Choy Lee Fut’s school; to expose and promote the all system.
In 1996 the 5th Guardian of the system, Master Chen Yong Fa, raised the International Wing Sing Tong. To obtain the level of Wing Sing Tong the Choy Lee Fut Hung Sing Gwoon’s members must demonstrate special technical and human qualities, in what concerns is performance and character as Hung Sing Gwoon’ School members.
The Hung Sing Gwoon’s School is represented in numerous countries and in each of them there is an official representation of the Choy Lee Fut’s System, which are under the competence of Master Chen Yong Fa. This system of Chinese Martial Arts includes the study and the practice of several Chinese martial and cultural arts, as pointed as follows:

Kung Fu
Luohan Qigong
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Dance of the Lion, as well as Dragon and Unicorn performances.

In Portugal the Choy Lee Fut’s system representation of the Hung Sing Gwoon branch is divided in two departments, respectively:

Luohan Qigong’s Department which is under the supervision of the International Wing Sing Tong Nelson Barroso (CHINARTE)

Kung Fu’s Department which is under the supervision of the International Wing Sing Tong Rolando Martins (NEIJIA)

Personally, I joined the Luohan Qigong practice, modality that I have been studying the last five years under the supervision of Master Nelson Barroso, who has been revealing that he is worthy of his International Wing Sing Tong’s title, as also for being one of the fifteen Inner Chamber Disciples of Master Chen Yong Fa. I truly think that Master Nelson Barroso is one of the most loyal disciples of Master Chen Yong Fa, since he has always been promoting and propagating the teachings he has received from Master Chen Yong Fa in a dedicated, engaged, sincere and loyal way. He has the capacity to present himself as an extension of his Master Chen Yong Fa in what concerns Choy Lee Fut’s Arts, however, without being a copy, since he has a quite singular personality. Master Nelson Barroso has a great plasticity to interact with the martial world sphere, as well with the health field, therefore, the result is excellent for those who have the privilege to begin and develop the apprenticeship of these arts with his support. I had, also, the opportunity of being present several times, as well of participate in Luohan Qigong International Courses under the supervision of Master Chen Yong Fa, who, undoubtedly, is a distinguished martial artist, as it is demonstrated by his skill, agility, ability and power that he reveals when performing all Choy Lee Fut’s techniques. Furthermore, Master Chen Yong Fan is an excellent human behaviour expert, considering the multiplicity of factors that involves. Therefore, he easily dominates a crowd of pupils, always managing and controlling in the most appropriate form the groups he leads, feeling, listening, looking … being always attentive and vigilant. Thus his action to control a class is changeable, variable and sometimes even unpredictable.
There are at this moment in Portugal hundreds of Choy Lee Fut’s followers, but only a small number of them had required the application to be Hung Sing Gwoon members. So, I hereby instigate all the lovers of these arts to incorporate the Hung Sing Gwoon School, wishing that all they may participate in the next Choy Lee Fut course which will take place in November 2010 in King Mui / China, event that will coincide with the commemoration of Master Chen Yon Fa’s 60th anniversary.

Who Likes Come, Who Loves Will Return

Once more CHINARTE promoted and organized the INTENSIVE TAI CHI AND CHI KUNG COURSE, which was successfully held from 10th to 15th of August of 2010 in Viana do Castelo, one of the most interesting cities of Alto Minho. This region is known by their beautiful natural landscapes, where we can appreciate and enjoy the green of mountains, the blue of rivers, streams, as well of the sea. All this associated with an historical and traditional environment, since the surroundings are full of ancient stone houses, chapels and other monuments.

This course was simultaneously completed with "ALTO MINHO SUMMER HOLIDAYS 2010 PROGRAM", joining to Tai Chi and Chi Kung practice the development of several entertaining activities, as morning long walks in woods and lagoons, picnics by rivers and streams,Tai Chi practice by the Minho's river and on the top of Cervo's Hill, among others relaxing and amusing moments.

The Intensive Tai Chi - Chi Kung Summer 2010 Course had as aim two main aspects:

1. To develop new skills improve and consolidate previous ones;

2. To promote the physical and mental relaxation in a natural way, as a consequence of sightseeing and sociability moments

Next year CHINARTE will repeat this fabulous experience of Alto Minho Nature contact, which is undoubtedly truly healthy.

It took place from 1 to 5 April 2010 in Palencia/Spain a Luohan Qigong Seminar with the presence of Master Chen Yong Fa. This event was attended by numerous Choy Lee Fut Students from Spain and Portugal. And as always, it was also present the Wing Sing Tong/Choy Lee Fut Member, Neiva, who represents the system in Venezuela.

Master Chen Yong Fa anticipated me some information. Well, I can say that is being organized the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Master Chen Yong Fa, an event which will be held in November 2010 in King Mui in the District of Xin Hui, Guangdong Province/China, hometown of Chan Heung, the founder of Choy Lee Fut. System. Simultaneously, it will be held a course of Choy Lee Fut (Kung Fu and Chi Kung), and also graduate Duan examination and certification through Beijing Wushu Association. Additionally, the participants of this event may do a Tourist Tour that will include a visit to Shaolin Temple, among other places of great interest and beauty.

It was with great joy that I review Master Chen Yong Fa, who I know since 1986, being his student since then. Afterwards I had the privilege of being one of their 12 disciples of the inner circle disciples. That was marked on an initiation ceremony, which was made in the Temple of the Chen Family in China. Over all these years, I have learned several teachings from him, and I also had the opportunity to experience through Sifu Chen Yong Fa some of his rich Qigong and Kung Fu Knowledge.

I consider Sifu Chen Yong Fa a man of great intelligence and wisdom that has a high capacity and technical skill in the art of Kung Fu and Qigong. Furthermore, he has an empirical knowledge that relies on the aspect of Chinese traditional medicine, including Feng Shui and traditional Chinese customs.

In spite of my Choy Lee Fut’s System dedication my culture in the area of martial arts transcends it, since in the past I had meet and learned from other masters, learning that still continues. On the other hand, I wish to emphasize that all this knowledge was associated with my academic training in the area of Health and Sports, which was valuable in my academic and professional training and practice. Thus, I wish to express my deep appreciation and respect to Master Chen Yong Fa for all the knowledge he taught me, and that I was able to restructure and framed in the context of a specialized training in various aspects, mainly in what concerns educational and sporting activities, that were the basis for the establishment and development of my Qigong books, that I published until this date. I hope that those books may help to preserve a small part of the ancestral knowledge of Chan Heung, which is nowadays represented by Chen Yong Fa, in order to keep the flame and the spirit of the Bodhidarma’ wisdom that was transmitted by Choy Fook to Chan Heung.

Pay Attention and Ask Yourselves!

A master is an individual who has acquired an expertise on a particular area of human knowledge and that has the ability to convey this knowledge to other individuals, known as pupils or disciples. The term master requires the existence of a dual relationship between the individual that has the role of master and the pupil or disciple who considers the first one as his master. This description associated with the original definition of master, requires that the master should act in order to educate and teach, directly and personally, the pupil in a given area, and simultaneously, the pupil should receive and embed the master teaching, being aware of this connection, that must exist between a certain period of time, which is necessary to complete the learning process. This learning process occurs in several stages through a determined communication channel.

There are individuals who are truly masters and teach the art they have learned in a authentic and genuine way. Those masters put many years of dedication and personal commitment, developing and continually improving their practice and theoretical and technical capacity, helping and supporting the growing and developing of those who surround them.

Therefore, to define the concept of master obliges, also, to define the term pupil, which should be differentiated from the term disciple. Who do not absorb directly the knowledge from a master cannot be characterized his pupil and much less his disciple, since the latter term, defines who follows and respect the master. The disciple is the one that learns what the master teaches, and seeks to put into practice the teachings that he receives or received from the master. The pupil is a mere student who can become a disciple, if later on put in practice what he learned from the master. So many pupils may never be considered disciples, given the misrepresentation that they insert on their master teachings, thus undermining the very essence of the given learning.
Master and disciple, or teacher and pupil? To identify this relation, both must mutually recognize each one in their own role, because it is a relationship established in a two-way communication and it is not unilateral, and that generates a sense of mutual communion. However, in a higher level of development the pupil or disciple, naturally, becomes master of itself, because the purpose of learning a given Art is not only theoretical and practical, it is also the personal development knowledge. The last aim of each individual is to improve his self knowledge and to expand the awareness of the All that transcends him, and that simultaneously is One with himself. At this stage the master/disciple relationship is focused and works in two ways. The first one is the self knowledge work because each one is master of itself, and the second one concerns the fact that each master has the possibility to have several pupils or disciples and those ones have the opportunity to have several masters. ~

Thus, when faced with a path that aims to learn and develop the knowledge that concerns a specific Art, pay attention and carefully ask yourselves who is your Master, as well as ask yourselves, if you are disciples or pupils!

Luohan Qigong Forms and the Concept of Change

Sometimes, my Luohan Qigong Students ask me why when performing a particular Luohan Qigong Form, as for instance, Siuo Luohan, it seems that some movement has been changed, and consequently, for them, it seems that the execution of the form is not identical, as it was performed before. That kind of doubt is very common, even among the oldest Luohan Qigong practitioners.

To clarify this misunderstanding of Luohan Qigong practice, we need to understand that in Qigong nothing is perpetual, since nature follows the law of Tao, though everything is impermanent. Therefore, Yin and Yang are continuously interacting, complementing and transforming each other. When performing a specific Qigong exercise, we can express the movement and the associated kind of breathing and mental focus in a Yang or Yin attitude, considering the characteristics and needs of the practitioner or the purpose of the exercise. Additionally, we also should note that something is classified as Yin or Yang, always in comparison with another thing. Consequently, we say that 18 Luohan Hands’ Form is Yang comparatively with Siuo Luohan Form, but, we must keep in mind, that we can perform a sequence of movements, as Siuo Luohan, with a Yang or a Yin attitude, in spite of its Yin characteristic.

A good example of this situation is given by Great Master Chen Yong Fa. When Master Chen Yong Fa does a Luohan Qigong Seminary, after having made a hard and intense Kung Fu Seminary, it is certain that the Qigong Practice will have a more Yin intensity, in order to calm down and tranquilize the exciting effect of Kung Fu activity. I remember, that last year (April 2009) in Palencia (Spain) when performing the 18 Luohan Hands Form, which essence is quite Yang, the movements were quite relaxing, since the aim were to relax the body and not to work the muscular and tendons structures. However, we know that the original purpose of 18 Luohan form is to work bones, tendons and muscles. Furthermore, if we work with an old age group of practitioners, we should be careful and prevent a possible incident, so the exercise must be smooth (yin) and not strong (yang).

The important is the Luohan Qigong practice that really promotes a better quality of life, developing Health, Energy and Vitality of each individual. To achieve this purpose, the practice must be appropriated to the individual needs of each one of us.

Mantra of Compassion - OM MANI PADME HUM
Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra (prayer), Om Mani Padme Hum, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara, the embodiment of compassion.
Viewing the written form of the mantra it is said to have the same effect -- it is often carved into stones and placed where people can see them.
Spinning the written form of the mantra around in a Mani wheel (or prayer wheel) is also believed to give the same benefit as saying the mantra, and Mani wheels, small hand wheels and large wheels with millions of copies of the mantra inside, are found everywhere in the lands influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.

It is said that all the teachings of the Buddha are contained in this mantra: Om Mani Padme Hum can not really be translated into a simple phrase or sentence.

The deep vision of an endless blue sky covering a powerful sea, which water comes and goes continuously, through dancing white waves that are lightened by the sun…

The classic melody that sharpens and crosses the wind, and make me dream with a wonderful world…

The ballet of movements and the breath rhythm that draw the energy flow, showing colors sensations of peace, serenity and quietness...

All this scenery enlightened my Inner Being, bringing to light what must be purified. This is what my eyes see and my heart feels, though others can just see and feel the strength and power of the sea, jumping in each breath moment, building a defense wall against all evil devils that might exist.

Qigong cleans, purifies and fortify the body and mind energy, but it just makes sense if the Way to follow is a never ending way of evolution to comprehend our inner being and achieve high levels of human understanding and development.
